CALL TO THE VIETNAMESE COMMUNITY TO JOIN A PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATION IN OTTAWA
Dear members of the Vietnamese community across Canada,
In the spirit of responsibility toward our homeland and in accordance with the freedom of expression protected under Canadian law, the Vietnamese Canadian Federation respectfully calls on our community to take part in a peaceful demonstration in Ottawa on the occasion of Mr. Tô Lâm, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, visiting Canada and expected to be received at Rideau Hall on September 24, 2026.
The presence of the Vietnamese community in Canada on this occasion will be an opportunity to express, peacefully yet firmly, our deep concern about human rights violations, restrictions on religious freedom, freedom of the press, freedom of association, and the right to express political views in Vietnam.
Purpose of the Demonstration: The demonstration is intended to speak out for fundamental values, including freedom, democracy, human dignity, and justice, while urging the Government of Canada to give greater attention to the human rights situation in Vietnam within the context of bilateral relations.
Location: In front of Rideau Hall, on Sussex Drive, Ottawa. This is a public area where people may gather and express their views peacefully, orderly, and in accordance with Canadian law.
Time: 10:30 a.m. on September 24, 2026.
Spirit of Participation: The Vietnamese Canadian Federation earnestly calls on all members of our community to participate in a peaceful, respectful, and civilized manner, in full compliance with Canadian law and with a commitment to preserving the positive image of the Vietnamese community. We will raise our voices with dignity, unity, and discipline, without provocation, confrontation, or any excessive conduct that could detract from the legitimate purpose of the demonstration.
Every presence, every flag, every sign, and every peaceful voice will help send a clear message to Canadian and international public opinion: the Vietnamese community in Canada stands firmly for freedom, human rights, religious freedom, and human dignity.
The Vietnamese Canadian Federation respectfully asks members of the Vietnamese community in Ontario, Québec, Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and other provinces to arrange their time, transportation, and mutual support to come to Ottawa on this important day.
We sincerely thank all members of our community for their unity, responsibility, and heartfelt concern for our homeland.
Respectfully,
Dong Van Tran
President, Vietnamese Canadian Federation
