False. The image is AI generated.

AAP FactCheck – A picture of Anthony Albanese in an Aboriginal flag T-shirt is spreading on social media, with false claims the prime minister was wearing it during his recent US trip.

The image, however, was created on the X-owned artificial intelligence (AI) generation platform Grok, according to a watermark.

It appears to have been generated using a genuine image of Mr Albanese shared on his X account1 on June 15, 2025, showing him in Seattle, Washington, standing behind a clear podium and wearing a dark grey jacket.

As well as the introduction of the T-shirt, supposedly worn over the shirt, the face in the fake image is very slightly different to Mr Albanese’s.

The prime minister was in the US ahead of the G7 meeting in Canada.

The AI image was first shared in an X post2 on June 15, 2025.

It has since appeared elsewhere on social media.

“See the outfit Albanese is wearing in America,” the caption on one Facebook post3 reads.

“Oh lord!  How embarrassing,” another reads4. “Dear US brothers and sisters, this is our crayon eating kamala.”

The giveaway Grok watermark is visible in the bottom right corner of the image.
