VMA: Notice of the Appointment of New Chairperson


Dear valued Sponsors, Donors, Supporters and members of the Community,

The Vietnamese Museum Australia Ltd (VMA) announces the formal appointment of Mr Bruce Mildenhall as Chairperson of the VMA, pursuant to a resolution by the board of directors of the VMA (Board) on 5 December 2022, in accordance with Article 44 of the Constitution of the VMA.

Mr Mildenhall has been a member of the Board since the VMA’s incorporation in 2019 and has been the Acting Chairperson of the VMA since mid-2021. Some of Mr Mildenhall’s significant experience and achievements are outlined below:

  • Member of Victorian Veterans Council, 2018 – present
  • Board Member Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, 2018 – present
  • President of Doutta Galla Services, 2007 – 2016
  • State Member of Parliament for Footscray, 1992 – 2006
  • Parliamentary Secretary, Victorian Government, Premier and Cabinet October, 1999-2006. Portfolios included Veterans (2003–2006), Public Sector Employment (2003 -2006) and Arts (1999 -2006)
  • Councillor, City of Footscray, 1982 -1991, Mayor 1987-1988
  • Chair of State Sports Centre Trust, 2009 – 2013
  • President, Western Region Football League, 2011 -2016
  • President, Western Region Health Centre, 2007–2012
  • Chair, Mt Macedon ANZAC Dawn Service Committee 2013 – present
  • Graduate, Australian Institute of Company Directors

The VMA welcomes the formal appointment of Mr Mildenhall as the Chairperson of the VMA at this important time in the museum project as the VMA continues to work to bring its mission and purpose to life, in establishing a world class museum to tell the stories of the escape to freedom and settlement in Australia by Vietnamese Australians.
