VJ82: VietJet flight from Melbourne to Vietnam forced to turn around after it suddenly drops in sky


A VietJet plane from Melbourne to Vietnam was forced to return to Melbourne Airport –after a sudden drop during the early hours of Thursday morning.

The packed VietJet flight –traveling from Melbourne to Vietnam had to turn back on Thursday morning 5/12 due to a technical issue. The unexpected incident occurred shortly after the plane began its journey, prompting the crew to take precautionary measures.

Flight VJ82, bound for Ho Chi Minh City –departed Melbourne Tullamarine Airport around 3 a.m. Everything initially appeared normal as the aircraft headed toward its destination.

However, a technical issue arose when the plane was nearing the South Australia-Northern Territory border.

In response to the issue, the crew made the decision to return to Melbourne.

According to flight data showed the Airbus A330’s altitude dropping slightly before making a U-turn and flying back towards Victoria.

It then circled over Bendigo for about 3 hours before landing safely at 9.30am, more than 6 hours after it left.

Thankfully, emergency services were not required during the landing. The incident was managed efficiently, ensuring the safety and well-being of all passengers and crew on board.

VietJet’s Airbus A330 aircraft can carry up to 377 passengers. 

Following the safe return of the aircraft, VietJet confirmed that the flight had been cancelled. Passengers are expected to be rebooked on alternative flights, though further details have yet to be released.
