PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
RE: Grants of $440,000 from the Yarra City Council and the Maribyrnong City Council towards the projects to celebrate the “50 Years of Resettlement, 50 Years of Freedom”
Dear Community Members,
The Executive Committee of the VCA-VIC has the pleasure to inform you that the Yarra City Council and the Maribyrnong City Council during their budget meeting on 18 June both decided to provide the VCA-VIC with grants totalling $440,000 towards the events and projects to celebrate the “50 Years of Resettlement, 50 Years of Freedom” of the Vietnamese Community in Australia.
The Yarra City Council allocated an amount of $400,000 for the erection of a monument to mark the 50-year milestone of the Vietnamese Community’s resettlement in the City of Yarra, together with additional minor projects.
The City Maribyrnong Council provided a grant of $40,000 for the organisation of the 2025 TẾT Festival, which will be held at the Footscray Park on the 15th and 16th February 2025.
The Festival, as well as other events to be organised in 2025, are part of programs to mark the “50 Year of Resettlement, 50 Years of Freedom” of the Vietnamese Community. The successful applications for the grants would not have been possible without the valuable contributions from many organisations and individuals who have tirelessly supported our Community.
- We give special thanks to the following organisations for their valuable support for our Community: the Quang Minh Buddhist Temple, the Footscray Asian Business Association, the Victoria street Business Association, the Australian Vietnamese Women’s Association, the Culture Vietnamese Women Association, and the AVA Boroondara Senior Citizens Association.
- We give special thanks to contributions from Vietnamese Australian councillors include Councillor Cuc Lam, Mayor of Maribyrnong city, Councillor Claudia Nguyen, former Mayor of Yarra city, Councillor Anthony Tran, former Mayor of Maribyrnong city. Without their strong support, the projects of the Vietnamese Community will be very difficult to implement.
The Executive Committee of the VCA-VIC will continue our efforts to look for more support and funding from the Federal and State Governments as well as from other city councils for the community activities during the “50 Years of Resettlement, 50 Years of Freedom” celebration.
For the VCA-VIC Executive Committee,
Best regards,
Nguyễn Quang Duy
President of the VCA-VIC
