86 year old pedestrian dies in Springvale collision


A 86 year old pedestrian has died following a collision in Springvale this afternoon.

It’s understood the pedestrian was crossing the Princes Highway, near Smith Street, when elderly woman was struck by a vehicle travelling northbound shortly after 2pm.

She was walking back home after short trip to local shops.

Sadly, the yet to be formally identified pedestrian died at the scene.

The 78 year old driver of the Toyota vehicle stopped to render assistance.

The intersection is expected to be closed for some time while police investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

It’s the third fatalities for today -bring the state’s Lives Lost tally to 133 so far this year, which is more than 11 per cent higher than the same time last year.

Earlier this week, 3 people died following a five-vehicle collision on a Victorian highway outside of Ararat.
