THOUSANDS OF NEW CITIZENS WELCOMED DURING AUSTRALIA DAY CELEBRATIONS

More than 22,200 people will be welcomed as new Australian citizens at more than 430 citizenship ceremonies taking place across the country as part of Australia Day 2024 celebrations.

Individuals from more than 150 nations are set to become Australia’s newest citizens including more than 3,600 New Zealand citizens, many of whom have utilised the Albanese Labor Government’s direct pathway to citizenship for New Zealanders which opened last year.

Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs Andrew Giles will attend a number of Australian citizenship ceremonies hosted by local government councils, in addition to the National Citizenship and Flag Raising Ceremony held on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra.

2024 marks the 75th anniversary of Australian citizenship, with more than 6 million people from more than 200 nations becoming Australian citizens in that time.
