St Albans: Body found after house fire in Power St
Police will investigate the circumstances surrounding a fatal house fire in St Albans this morning.
The blaze early this morning Sunday 3/11 —engulfed the house in Melbourne’s north-west, caused damage to neighbouring properties and was so intense neighbours were forced to flee.
Emergency services were called to the Power Street home following reports of a fire about 2.40am.
An male occupant in his 30s —who is yet to be formally identified was found deceased inside once the fire was extinguished.
It’s believe 4 housemates occupied the house —with 3 of the 4 of them out at a party when the fire started.
Emergency services arrived in “around five minutes” and it took 30 firefighters to get the blaze under control within 50 minutes.
A neighbouring three-storey apartment building sustained minor fire damage in what Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) called an “aggressive attack” brought under control before the fire could spread to other nearby properties.
FRV issued a Community Advice warning about smoke in the area, and police are helping some residents find alternative accommodation.
FRV and police will remain at the scene on Sunday.
“A crime scene has been established, and an arson chemist will attend the scene later today,” Victoria Police said.
