RECALL: Mr Chen’s Szechuan Chilli Oil Over Undeclared Peanut Allergen
Consumers across Australia are being warned not to consume certain batches of Mr Chen’s Szechuan Chilli Oil 250g —after the product was recalled because it contains an undeclared peanut allergen.
Chen Foods issued the recall on August 18 following concerns that the product label failed to declare peanut in the “Contains” statement. The chilli oil was sold nationally through Woolworths stores. Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) said the undeclared allergen could pose a serious food safety risk to people with a peanut allergy or intolerance.
The recall applies to products with the following best-before dates: 04/12/2026, 07/04/2027 and 11/12/2027. Woolworths has confirmed the affected product was distributed across all Australian states and territories.
Consumers with a peanut allergy or intolerance are advised not to eat the recalled chilli oil. Instead, the product should be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund. Anyone who is concerned about their health after consuming the product should seek medical advice.
The recall highlights the importance of accurate allergen labelling, particularly for consumers who rely on food packaging to identify ingredients that may cause potentially serious allergic reactions.
