4.7 million Victorians will have their say at the largest state election yet

Tuesday 3 November 2026
A record number of Victorians will head to the polls to elect the 61st Parliament of Victoria on Saturday 28 November following the issue of the election writs and close of the roll today.
Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, Governor of Victoria, issued the writs for the state election to the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC), formally triggering the election process. Under Victoria’s electoral laws, the writs are taken to have been issued at 6 pm.
Approximately 4.7 million Victorians are expected to be enrolled to vote in the state election, with the close of roll at 8 pm today.
‘A democracy is at its strongest when everyone participates. It is the right and the responsibility of every eligible Victorian to have their say,’ Electoral Commissioner Sven Bluemmel said.
‘We make it easy for everyone to make their voice heard with a range of voting options on and before election day. Plan ahead and choose the option that best suits you.’
All Victorian households will receive the VEC’s EasyVote guide in the mail. The guide explains the different voting options and how you can complete your ballot papers to make your vote count.
‘This guide is here to make participating in our democracy as easy as possible, no matter how or where you choose to do it,’ Mr Bluemmel said.
Victorians can also apply for a postal vote at vec.vic.gov.au/postal-voting from tomorrow, noting applications close at 6 pm on Wednesday 25 November.
Voters can choose to vote in person at early voting centres that will open statewide from Wednesday 18 November, or vote on election day, Saturday 28 November. Voting centre locations, including accessibility details, will be available from tomorrow at maps.vec.vic.gov.au/elections
Accessible services are also available for eligible voters, including:
- telephone-assisted voting
- Braille-printed ballots for people who are blind or low vision
- more than 400 mobile voting services delivered by VEC to the community, including hospitals, aged care and services for people without a home
- low sensory mobile voting services in each of the 88 state districts for people with low sensory needs and their carers on Tuesday 17 November.
The election writs must be returned on or before Saturday 19 December.
